MAGIUM - IDEAL WALKTHROUGH

Magium is a D&D inspired text-based game.

Here, we play as Barry, who is an ordinary guy, except for the fact that his lifelong dream has been to become a mage. 

The game consists of a stat system, where you receive points at some intervals which can be invested in various stats.

 

This walkthrough is called ideal because it aims at an efficient use of stat points, to make you well-informed and resourceful, to make as many allies as possible while also enabling you to fight enemies directly when possible.

Some choices which are considered to be important and their outcome is yet unknown, have been marked as PIE (Probable Important Event).

I have also added the achievements which can be unlocked while following this path. Other achievements can be found in the Brawler walkthrough and Average Joe walkthrough posts.

 

BOOK 1

CHAPTER 1

  • Choose "I see no reason to show myself to you."
  • Imply that I'm the one who destroyed the city of Olmnar.
  • Tell Daren that you are an ordinary human.
  • Tell Daren the truth about your reason for joining the tournament. [Achievement: Honesty is the best policy.]  

 CHAPTER 2

  • Choose "Deciding which one should make a pass at her." [Achievement: Smooth talker]
Points received = 3, spend 1 point in Speed and 2 points in Ancient Languages
  • Draw the younger mage away from Daren (requires 1 point in Speed).
  • Stat Check - Ancient Languages Lv2, you will be able to understand the deer. Offer to provide them protection and they will take you to their cave. (PIE) [Achievement: An unlikely ally]

 CHAPTER 3

  • Ask Elaria if they're cannibals.
  • Ask her what happened to Molan's father.
Points received = 6, spend 2 points in Hearing, 3 points in Observation and 1 point in Ancient Languages
  • Ask Kate how come she knows how the stat device works.
  • Choose "Why not?". Kate will talk about suggestion magic. (PIE)
  • Stat Check - Hearing Lv2 and Observation Lv3, you will save Kate. [Achievement: That was close!]
  • Go with Kate's plan.
  • Pressure the man into telling you where he's hiding the rest of his gold.
  • Kill him anyway.
 

   CHAPTER 4

  • Propose a different trade.
  • Choose "Nobody deserves such a gruesome fate, not even Cutthroat Dave".
  • Agree with Daren. Dave will escape. He will end up getting killed by Kate in B2C11.

   CHAPTER 5

  • Call Daren and head for the rescue.
  • Stat Check - Ancient Languages Lv3, you will be able to understand the goblins. Help the goblins by giving them the 2 copper pieces. (PIE) [Achievement: A good deed]
  • Choose "How did the Creator live so long?".  

 CHAPTER 6

  • Ask Rose how she met Elaria and tell her that Elaria didn't mind her presence. (PIE)
  • Secure the backpack. (PIE)
  • Choose "Don't worry, that wasn't what our discussion was about".
  • Choose "Are monster raids frequent in your area?".
Points received = 4, spend 2 points in Speed and 2 points in Hearing
  • Ask Eiden where he has been hiding all this time.
  • Choose to ask Eiden about time weavers to learn more about them. (PIE)
  • Make a plan before engaging the dragon.
  • Freeze time, then cast all of the protection spells I know, just to be sure.
  • Hit the dragon with the big spells.
[Achievement: Defeated Tyrath]
  • Ask Eiden about the lessathi.

CHAPTER 7

  • Choose "If you wanted to borrow some money from me, you could have just asked nicely."
  • Choose "Because I helped you when we were attacked by the crossbowmen".
  • Disagree with both.
  • Choose to call Rose and stay to watch the fight.
  • Ask the white mage if he is willing to bet his life and then choose to shoot his henchmen.
  • Choose to avoid getting hit by the golems (requires 1 point in Speed).
  • Ask Azarius why he's helping you.
  • Choose "Illusion? Don't you mean smoke bomb?".
  • Refuse the challenge.
  • Tell Azarius everything you know. (PIE)
  • Ask Hadrik why he rushed to defend Kate earlier in the clearing.
  • Choose "What are spirits of the forest?".

CHAPTER 8

Points received = 4, spend 1 point in Speed, 1 point in Observation and 2 points in Strength
  • Say that you should try to talk things through with their leader. [Achievement: Vive la democratie!]
  • Stat Check - Ancient Languages Lv3, you will decipher the glyphs. Choose to follow the instructions written on the wall and gain the first puzzle piece. (PIE) [Achievement: First piece of the puzzle]
  • Convince Hadrik to wait a little longer for Flower.
  • Stat Check - Hearing Lv4, you will identify the location of the hydra's heart.
  • Choose to rush towards the hydra (requires 3 points in Speed). [Achievement: Hydra slayer]
  • Ask Flower how old she is.
  • Take the path marked with a beetle.
  • Ask about the ogre stronghold.

CHAPTER 9

  • Introduce yourself to Flower as well.
  • Tell Rose what you noticed about Flower and Petal.
  • Choose to take Rose with you.
  • Stat Check - Hearing Lv2 and Observation Lv1, you will identify the ogre scouts. [Achievement: Keen observer]
  • Convince Flower to open the amulet.

CHAPTER 10

  • Choose "Actually, I'm not so sure that she really betrayed us".
  • Give Daren his sword after making him swear not to attack Illuna.
  • Ask why the dots have different colors.
  • Take the gems.
  • Choose to maintain your position.
  • Choose "How do you know that the caverns below us won't lead to a dead end?".
  • Wait for Arraka to locate the trap.
  • Choose "So, what's happening in the real world, right now?".
  • Volunteer to go after the shaman (requires 3 points in Observation and 2 points in Speed). [Achievement: Defeated ogre shaman]
  • Go and kill the 2 ogres. (PIE)
  • Share a drink with Hadrik. [Achievement: A toast!]
  • Choose "We have been getting closer, but not in the way you might think."
  • Say that you want to start going on adventures. 
[Achievement: A touching reunion]
  • Ask Kate if she's still going to look for Diane after what happened.
  • Choose "I'm sorry, I was barely even able to talk at that point. I'd just been electrocuted." 

CHAPTER 11

  • Choose "Their families? Aren't there laws against this sort of thing?"
  • Ask Eiden for the power to save the girl. (PIE)
  • Kill the noble.
  • Borrow Suzie's toy to have a look at it. (PIE) [Achievement: A mysterious symbol]
Points received = 2, spend 2 points in Premonition 
  • Choose "I'm sorry, I didn't mean it like that. Please, forget what I said!".
  • Choose "How does this king of the people get along with the nobles?". 
  • Concentrate on finding the originals and ignore the clones.
  • Take out your dagger and attack Arraka.
  • Fight the skeletons alone.
  • Ignore the civilians and cast all of your strongest spells. [Achievement: Stillwater slayer]
  • Stat Check - Hearing Lv4, Observation Lv4 and Speed Lv4, you will save Rose. [Achievement: No casualties]
 

BOOK 2

CHAPTER 1

  • Don't spin Arraka's amulet.
[Achievement: Long-distance]
  • Choose to go exploring with Flower and gain the second puzzle piece. (PIE) [Achievement: Second piece of the puzzle]
[Achievement: Half-breed]
  • Agree with Golmyck to take care of his lessathi problem. (PIE)

 CHAPTER 2

  • Don't tell the servant about your stat device.
  • Choose cell number 5. (PIE)
  • Stat Check - Strength Lv2, you will be able to hold your own against Bruce.
  • Stat Check - Premonition Lv2, you will see a vision of Wilhelm stabbing you with an orange-hilted dagger in the arena. Choose to threaten Wilhelm, this will ensure that he doesn't backstab you in Chapter 4.
  • Accept to go inside Leila's cell.
  • Refuse the lessathi's offer.
  • Stat check - Hearing Lv3, you will hear the guards talking and gain valuable info about the creatures to be used in the arena.
  • Open the door.
  • Tell Leila about Kate.
  • Choose to kill the creatures (requires 2 points in Strength).
  • When the rats approach, get up slowly to not scare them away.
  • Choose to kill the griffin directly.

CHAPTER 3

  • Choose "What exactly have you heard about her?"
  • Choose to follow the blood trail.
  • Stat Check - Hearing Lv4 and Ancient Languages Lv3, you will overhear the trolls talking. Question the injured troll you meet about the other trolls. This will make him cooperate with you. He will later go off to Fyron's camp. (PIE) [Achievement: Once an enemy, now an ally]
  • Leave the bodies where they are.

CHAPTER 4

  • Choose "I suppose it couldn't hurt to hear their opinions on the matter."
  • Tell everyone what you found in the caverns. (PIE)
  • Call after Kate.
Points received = 3, spend 2 points in Combat Technique and 1 point in Strength 
  • Choose to stay and watch the fights. [Achievement: A calculated risk]
  • Stat Check - Hearing Lv3, you will overhear the ambassador and the arena owner talking.
  • Choose to charge at the creatures and ask Leila to join you. 
  • Stat Check - Speed Lv3, you will kill the desert marauder.
[Achievement: Intimidation successful]  
  • Choose to kill the manticore first. (requires 1 point in Combat Technique and 1 point in Strength) [Achievement: Spear thrower]
  • Stat Check - Strength Lv2, you will be able to kill the tramplers. [Achievement: Trampler slayer]
  • Stat Check - Hearing Lv2, you will overhear Wilhelm talking to the ambassador and get to know the reason about why he wanted to kill you. [Achievement: The assassin's motive]
[Achievement: Time stop]

CHAPTER 5

  • Let Wilhelm fight with you. (PIE)
  • Stat Check - Hearing Lv2, you will hear 2 guards talking about the ogres.
  • Choose to cut off the troll's head. (requires 3 points in Speed and 2 points in Strength)
  • Stat Check - Ancient Languages Lv1, you will talk to the ogres and convince them to join your side. (PIE)
  • Choose to take both scimitars. (PIE)
[Achievement: Divide and conquer]
  • Accept the duel.
  • Aim to incapacitate him.
  • Take him by surprise and disarm him. (requires 1 point in Strength and 2 points in Speed)
  • Stab him in the right leg, but spare his life. (PIE) [Achievement: Public speaker]
[Achievement: United we stand]
  • Offer to pilot the aircraft.
  • Choose to attack the dragon.

CHAPTER 6

  • Give the stat device to Melindra when she asks for it. You will learn the code to increase Hearing by a few points for a few seconds. (PIE) [Achievement: Secret code discovered]
  • Ask Arraka what happens to the spirits she absorbs.
  • Choose "Wait, you have different races in the magical plane?".
  • Buy the expensive crossbow. (PIE)

CHAPTER 7

  • Let Illuna cast the spell for protection against dizziness on you. (PIE)
  • Ask Arraka if she can sense any tunnels which are not on the king's map.
  • Choose to agree with Daren. This will cause you to move through the tunnel Arraka sensed earlier.
  • Stat Check - Hearing Lv2 and Ancient Languages Lv3, you will overhear the lessathi talking and get to know that they sabotaged Golmyck's device. (PIE) [Achievement: Found the culprit]
  • Stat Check - Ancient Languages Lv3, you will understand the lessathi language.
  • Choose to wait for Leila's signal and then distract the lessathi by giving him Eiden's message. [Achievement: Message delivered]
  • Let her handle it.
  • Take the device Golmyck offers to you. (PIE)

CHAPTER 8

  • Let Melindra deal with the situation however she wants.
[Achievement: Stillwater trivia]
  • Choose "Was this before the still winter? What was he being imprisoned for?".
  • Stat Check - Combat Technique Lv1, you will kill an orc.
  • Choose to fight the orcs.
  • Stat check - Strength Lv3, witness Chad Barry wielding a tree. [Achievement: Tree wielder]
  • Choose "Do all of the elite groups have the same team composition?".
  • Choose "How many types of monsters does Tyrath have under his rule, exactly?"
  • Ask Melindra what she means, and you will learn her theory about Barry's real parents.
  • Tell Melindra that you don't want to sleep with her, and go join Kate on her night shift. [Achievement: A true gentleman]

    CHAPTER 9

  • Choose to keep the first puzzle piece when Flower asks for it, we are aiming to complete the set. (PIE)
  • Tell Melindra that there's no need for her to take another enchanter's oath.
  • Volunteer to go with Flower to save the animals.
  • Stat Check - Ancient Languages Lv2, you will talk with the 2 wolves you went to save. Tell them Eiden's spell. (PIE) [Achievement: I'm a helper!]
  • Tell Hadrik that you'd rather stay sober.
  • Tell Hadrik to turn his card face up. [Achievement: Master of cards]

CHAPTER 10

  • Refuse Nolderan's offer to drink.
Points received = 3, spend 2 points in Premonition and 1 point in Ancient Languages
  • Use the crossbow to fight the orcs. (requires 2 points in Combat Technique)
  • Choose to bribe the orcs. You will bribe one of them, who will later go off to Fyron's camp. (PIE) [Achievement: A creative solution]
  • Attack the mammoth's nostrils.
[Achievement: Mammoth slayer]
  • Stat check - Hearing Lv2, Barry finds the lack of any sound to be surprising.
  • Choose to attack the henchmen.
  • Fly towards the mages, and focus on attacking the elf.
[Achievement: Stalker detected]

CHAPTER 11

  • Wait for the banshee to attack Barry's parents, before going in for the kill.
  • Try to save Barry's parents again. [Achievement: A hidden truth]
  • Let Barry's parents die.
  • Encourage Rose. [Achievement: Supportive friend]
  • Ask Melindra for Cutthroat Dave's items. You will get to keep his elixir of invisibility. (PIE)
  • Stat Check - Ancient Languages Lv4, you will be able to understand the announcement being made in the lessathi language.
  • Choose "How do these towers work exactly?"
  • Try to stall for time, in the hopes that the others can come up with a plan.
 

BOOK 3

CHAPTER 1 

  • Choose "I'll take a look with Leila and Daren, and we'll see what we can find."
  • Leave the stat device as it is.
  • Stat Check - Observation Lv4 and Ancient Languages Lv4, you will be able to read what is written on one of Melindra's rocks. [Achievement: Password acquired]

CHAPTER 2

  • Say that the password is 'griffin beak'.
  • Choose to eavesdrop on someone. (requires 4 points in Hearing)
  • Choose to talk to the goblins. You will gain additional information about entering the city.
  • Choose "It's fine, we're not in a hurry. You can go first instead".
  • Tell the drone that your name is Barry.
  • Choose to be honest with the Overseer and it will give you some vital information about the Royal Guards. [Achievement: I cannot tell a lie.]
  • Stat Check - Hearing Lv3, you will overhear the Royal Guard Captain and Gontrok talking.
  • Provoke Gontrok and the captain into fighting each other.
  • Tell the girl that you will find her family.
  • Choose to go inside the quarantine area. [Achievement: Reckless]
  • Ask Kelrim how he learnt white magic. 

CHAPTER 3

  • Say that you'd prefer to focus on winning the Magium, without any distractions.
  • Stat Check - Premonition Lv4, you will see a vision which will be useful for Chapter 4. [Achievement: Ominous foreshadowing]
  • Ask Reidzek why the aura stats are less protected than the magical stats.
Stat device gets locked for unlocking Magical Sense, Bluff (Aura Concealment) and Aura Hardening stats.
  • When you get attacked in the alley, only incapacitate the attackers and do not kill anyone. (PIE)
  • Fly towards Leila and carry her back to the group. 
[Achievement: An unforeseen premonition]

CHAPTER 4

  • See the introduction
After the stat device unlocks, spend 3 points in Strength, 1 point in Ancient Languages, 2 points in Combat Technique, 4 points in Premonition, 4 points in Bluff (Aura Concealment) and 4 points in Magical Sense 
  • Convince Illuna to wake up Flower.
  • Choose to ask Melindra what's wrong.
  • Don't take the secret passage.
  • Try to convince them that we are the new guards tasked to defend this corridor. (requires 4 points in Bluff) [Achievement: A master of deception]
  • Stat Check - Aura Concealment Lv3, you will decently suppress your aura.
  • Choose to contact Rose.
  • Stat Check - Magical Sense Lv4, you will identify what the drones are trying to do.
  • Choose to throw rocks at the drones. (requires 3 points in Strength) [Achievement: Rock throwing champion]

CHAPTER 5

  • Choose "I mean, the cat's out of the bag already, so I guess we might as well tell you."
[Achievement: The good old days]
  • Ask Flower about Arraka's near-immortality.
  • Choose to lie to Albert. (requires 4 points in Bluff)
  • Choose "Do you and the royal guard captain have mage specializations aside from aura manipulation?"

CHAPTER 6

  • Tell Rose to go back to sleep.
  • Stat Check - Aura Concealment Lv3, you will decently suppress your aura.
  • Tell the Overseer that it wasn't clear enough.
  • Choose to call Rose.
  • Choose to take a closer look at the labels. (requires 1 point in Ancient Languages)
  • Choose to prepare for the fight.
  • Choose to deal with the earth elementalist.
  • Stat Check - Magical Sense Lv2 and Aura Concealment Lv3, you will detect the mage and hide your position from him.
  • Keep going after the earth elementalist. [Achievement: Peek-a-boo!]
  • Stat check - Strength Lv3, you will cut the rock in which the mage is hiding into half.
  • Choose to kill the earth elementalist.
  • Stat Check - Combat Technique Lv2, you will avoid being stabbed by Loyrang.
[Achievement: Time freeze enthusiast]
  • Go and kill the ambassador.
  • Tell Leila that you were planning to take the next night shift with Hadrik.
[Achievement: Quarantine ender]

CHAPTER 7

  • Learn the massage technique from Leila. (PIE) (requires 2 points in Magical Sense)
  • Convince Gontrok that your weapons are as sharp as Daren's sword (requires 3 points in Bluff)
  • Choose to close the secret door.
  • Ask the king where Leila's father is.
  • Shoot the king above his left knee and then shoot him in the head.
  • Grab Leila's hand.

CHAPTER 8

  • Stat Check - Premonition Lv4, you will detect the Overseer.
  • Tell Arraka that you detected the Overseer using your magical sense. (requires 4 points in Bluff) [Achievement: Master of bluffing]
  • Choose Kelrim to be the king candidate.[Achievement: An unusual candidate]
  • Choose "Just one quick question. Did you and Horace serve as royal guards at the same time?"
  • Tell the Overseer that we won't help him set an ambush for the king of the underground. 
  • Take the first night shift together with both Daren and Hadrik.
  • Ask Hadrik about his love life. [Achievement: A friend in need] 

CHAPTER 9

  • Ask Melindra to cast the same air currents as always.
  • Tell the king of the underground that you were contacted by the Overseer but you refused to join his side.
  • Don't breathe.  
  • Choose Ice. [Achievement: An introspective moment]
  • Teleport to Peter.
  • Tell the king to keep the barrier active until it breaks.
  • Choose to burn the hydra with fire.
  • Tell Flower to teleport the others to their minds as well.
  • Fly towards the metal golem and keep it distracted until Hadrik wakes up.
  • Take cover behind Daren's shield.
[Achievement: No need for trinkets]
  • Keep your eyes closed.

CHAPTER 10

  • Don't spin Arraka's amulet.
  • Choose "Hey, that's not a bad idea. I've actually been meaning to ask about this too!" (PIE)
  • Tell Kate the truth about what's happening.
  • Ask Flower to check the whole surface of the cube, in case there are more shadows.
[Achievement: Third piece of the puzzle]
  • When talking about Eiden, tell Arraka that you are trying to be extra careful. (PIE)
Points received = 4
  • Tell Eiden that the king will be a great leader. [Achievement: No man left behind]
  • Say that Flower is telling the truth.
  • Tell Meridith that everything began after the king of Ollendor blew up the caves. (PIE)
  • Touch the Magium node. (PIE)
[Achievement: Forbidden knowledge]
  • Say that it would be better to mention it to Meridith. (PIE) 

CHAPTER 11

Spend 4 points in Observation
  • Choose "The first time I used it, Eiden transferred his energy into the device to activate it." (PIE)
  • Say that Hadrik probably avoided that tunnel.
  • Stat check - Observation Lv4, Barry will notice something in the wall.
  • Place your palm on the stone. (PIE) [Achievement: Fourth piece of the puzzle]
  • Tell Meridith that the Overseer can lie only through omission. (PIE)
  • Choose "How did they escape? Did they manage to invent climbing tools?"
Magical stats are unlocked. Magical power Lv1 and Magical knowledge Lv1.
  • Press the red button. [Achievement: A small taste of the big prize]  

 CHAPTER 12

Spend 1 point in Ancient Languages

Points received = 4

  • Try to predict Hadrik's movements from his aura. (requires 4 points in Magical Sense and 4 points in Observation)
  • Decide to try out a spell that isn't useless. (PIE)
  • Ignore Kate and go test some spell combinations. (PIE)
  • Insist on going to scout the mages.
  • Stat check - Observation Lv3, you will observe the illusionist burying something in the ground. You'll be able to recover it later and turn it into a magic amplifier. (PIE)
  • Tell Kate to attack them.
  • Choose "I don't understand how you thought you could beat Kate in hand-to-hand combat".
  • Stat check - Ancient Languages Lv2, the wolf that we helped in B2C9 will give us a bracelet. (PIE)
  • Try to find a way to defeat Eiden before he unleashes his full power.
  • Attack Eiden together with Flower and Illuna.
  • Tell Eiden that there is a drunken flying orangutan wearing a party hat behind him. (requires 4 points in Bluff)
  • Stay silent.

  1. I have a question if I hacked the stats and merged the ideal walkthrough with the brawler one will it make a difference or not?

    1. I suppose you will be able to pass all the stat checks, other than that you'll have to decide on the choices which don't requires stats.

    1. The only reason is that I wanted to provide as many achievements as possible in the walkthrough, and the achievement "Long distance" can only be unlocked if Rose is alive and not romanced.
      I have provided romance options in the other 2 walkthroughs for a similar reason, the achievements related to those romances.

  3. In book 3 ch10 if you spin arraka you'll need either 2 in observation or 3 reflexes or u die getting the puzzle piece

Until now I was not aware of this instance, because in my ideal walkthrough path I didn't spin Arraka's amulet and went to take the puzzle piece; while in the brawler walkthrough path I spun Arraka's amulet and didn't go to take the puzzle piece. So this was new information to me.

    1. Yes, there is. I spend only as many points as are required. The rest will be used as they are needed. It is better to have spare points for future use.

  7. At the end of book 3 chapter 6 I'm guessing you call your friends on the receiver not try to listen down the tunnel to the teleporter room as theres nothing about a hearing check in that stage of the guide?

    1. You can pick either option since it doesn't make much difference, and I have provided that option in the Brawler walkthrough. It just gives some extra info to Barry and an achievement.

    2. Question, other than affecting the achievements, will romancing one of the girls affect the ideal story overall or just alter some flavor text in some of the parts?

Until now there aren't any indications either from the author or from the story about romance having a significant impact on the events of the story, so I believe that the romance options are just a matter of preference. Right now, for the ideal walkthrough, I will prefer Barry to not be in a relationship with anyone.
